Addison McKee

Past Notes

December 23rd, 2025

Addison is unwell today and won't be coming to lessons.

December 22nd, 2025

We continued working on Jingle Bells. Addison said she hadn't really practised the song this week, but rather had been focusing on Carol of the Bells, I guess something from YouTube. I asked her to commit to work on what we're learning so she can get better.

for piano, Addison didn't have her book, but she remembered quite a bit of Jingle Bells so we worked through what we could remember and I tried to help her fill in the missing spots.

December 9th, 2025

We went over Sorry I'm Here at first 50% speed, and then worked it up to 105% speed! (She wanted to challenge herself!)

We reviewed Save Your Tears after that, at 90% speed.

Both the C and the D are better than last week (and she said she hadn't practised, so amazing!) I suggested she might be even better if she put more time in at home.

Addison is taking over Isabelle's spot, aand started piano today. We began with the note names, using Grandma's house and the Dog House to find G and D.

We then printed out my arrangement of Jingle Bells and went through it with separate hands, and then the first three bars with two hands.

I suggested she try to continue this process of playing a bar at a time on her own at home.

December 2nd, 2025

Addison is missing lessons tonight because her mom's in Ottawa.

November 25th, 2025

We went through Save Your Tears at nearly full speed. 80% I think? The C chord will still need a bit more work.

Then we worked on Sorry I'm Here for Someone Else at 50% speed. The D chord is the one that needs work for that.

November 18th, 2025

Addison is unwell tonight and won't be coming in.

November 10th, 2025

Addison is getting there! She said she didn't practise that much, so we spent time drilling the C chord, the one she's the slowest on. We used a stop watch on DuckDuckGo to time how long it takes her to get to the C chord. We got her to just a bit over one second. The habit program is called Finch.

2025-11-04 19:30:00 Benson Boone, Sorry I'm Here for Someone Else

Addison is sick tonight and won't be coming.

2025-10-28 18:30:00 Post Malone, Circles
2025-10-28 18:30:00 The Weeknd, Save Your Tears

We got "That's So True" up to 105% speed, amazing! We then tried adding Circles but the F and C chords were a bit hard to get to. We decided to shelve it for a little while.

We added Save Your Tears and worked on that at 100% speed and then 80%. She got into a bit of a bad habit with fingering for E minor which we tried to fix.

See you next week!

Good job getting Manchild up to 100% speed

We went to That's So True, and got that speed up to 70% - see if you can get faster at your Fs.

Don't forget to write out a list of songs you want to learn.

2025-10-14 18:30:00 Gracie Abrams, That's So True

Addison is doing great. We started out with reviewing manchild at 60%, and worked our way up to 90% speed. We'll continue to 100% speed next week.

We also added That's So True by Gracie Abrams. This requires a 'capo' to play in the same key as Gracie, so if you can pick one up that would be great. You can get them on Amazon or at Long and McQuade.

October 7th, 2025

Great job tonight, Addison! We played through all of Manchild at 65% of the speed using the YouTube playback speed functionality.

September 30th, 2025
2025-09-30 18:30:00 Sabrina Carpenter, Manchild

Addison didn't have her book, so I wrote chords out on a piece of paper for her- she said she hadn't really practised, so we found a song that I hoped might give her some ambition to learn the chords. We added Sabrina Carpenter, Manchild.

The chords (at least for the beginning) are [: G / / / | G / / / | Am / / / | C / / / :]

September 23rd, 2025

Addison was sick and did not come tonight.

September 16th, 2025

Today Addison we continued with E minor, G, C and then we added A minor and D. We worked on switching between the chords so that she wouldn't have to move every finger to make the new chord.

Good job! See you in a week!

September 9th, 2025

This was Addison's first week. She had been trying to learn guitar a bit on her own, and knew some things already. We discussed the parts of the guitar, and I asked her to draw a guitar in her book labelled with these parts.

We then did some strumming on E minor, G, and C.

September 2nd, 2025

Robyn forgot about music lessons this week. No charge for this missed lesson.
