Andre Moser

Past Notes

December 17th, 2025

Andre isn't coming tonight, but will be back in the new year.

2025-12-10 17:30:00 Bobby Helms, Jingle Bell Rock

Andre started off with playing Away In a Manger for me - he's coming along pretty good, although I thought he'd have it smoother over this week. :)
We added a new song, which took a bit of time near the end of his lesson. I'll send you the completed version to print since he won't be here next week, and he'll have something to work on.

Andre played through We Wish You a Merry Christmas and then the left hand of Away in a Manger. He did it quite well, almost without mistakes, but said he didn't really know how to play the right hand.

We did that again, going through it, and then I played it while he played the left hand.

Finally, we worked at one or two chords at a time, repeating them until he could play through the whole song from beginning to end.

Good job! Get it smooth this week.

Andre played through We Wish You a Merry Christmas for me a couple of times. There were a few mistakes which we focused on some, and I encouraged him to play it faster (I demonstrated the correct speed for him) this week.

He wanted to try Away In a Manger, so we did it hands separately, first the melody and then the left hand. I played the right hand while he played the left and we went through it three or four times this way.

We spent the lesson on the last two lines of We Wish You a Merry Christmas, trying to get both hands smoothly. Great job!

2025-11-12 17:30:00 Away In a Manger
2025-11-12 17:30:00 We Wish You a Merry Christmas

We started right off adding some Christmas music. I printed out two for him: We Wish You a Merry Christmas, and Away in a Manger. The second one is a bit harder, so we're saving it for later, but we went through the first one a few times, working out the fingering etc. He tried touching on Away In a Manger, but we'll save that for later, as it's a bit harder.

Andre didn't seem quite as practised as he's been with other songs he's learned. Maybe Bruno is a bit too hard for him? Or maybe just busy with Halloween, etc. I said I don't want to move on to a new song until he's come a little further along with this song.

October 29th, 2025

We didn't have time to really work much on We Don't Talk About Bruno, and there were some parts in it that had confused Andre so we started kinda fresh, and figured out together the best fingerings and I corrected some of the bad notes (notes that he didn't realize were flat).
He also played through Here Comes the Sun for me. Great job!

Good job!

2025-10-22 16:30:00 Encanto, We Don't Talk About Bruno

In Andre's lesson we reviewed the Here Comes the Sun song, and I showed him the left hand for the other part.

We then added a new song, "We Don't Talk About Bruno." I wrote out the piano part but made some mistakes in the left hand, which we'll fix next week. (Or I may send you a PDF -- can you print PDFs at home?)

I cancelled lessons tonight because of a migraine. No charge.https://rockandroll101.ca/calendar/October/2025/15#

Andre is doing well. We played through what he has done so far for Here Comes the Sun, and I wrote out more of the song and we practised that together. He's got a natural ability, and I'm excited to see where he will go if he keeps applying himself and we can keep him challenged. Happy Thanksgiving!

2025-10-01 16:30:00 Glass Tiger, Dont You Forget About Me
2025-10-01 16:30:00 The Beatles, Here Comes the Sun

Andre didn't have his book, but he remembered "Don't You Forget About Me" beginning - he said he hadn't remembered how to play Here Comes the Sun very well, so I wrote it out again, and we went over it a number of times trying to smooth out the rough spots.

We used two hands, with a simple left hand note.

He's doing very well. I think Andre may have a natural aptitude to music.

September 24th, 2025

I screwed up a bit, and chose the wrong song- Andre asked for Don't Forget Me from Breakfast Club, and I wrote out Don't You Forget About Me by Glass Tiger. Doh!

We didn't have a lot of time to write out the other parts for the CORRECT song - so instead Here Comes the Sun, which I already knew fairly well.

Sorry about that!

2025-09-17 16:30:00 My Singing Monsters, Loodvigg

Andre is doing very well on Count On Me. He played through it kind of awkwardly at first, carefully reading the notes, and taking too much time between them, so I asked him to see how far he could go with playing from memory. He even played portions with his eyes closed.

By the end, he was playing the whole song without looking, and playing it in good time (which isn't normal for a kid to be able to do this early).

We then looked at another song, from a game called My Singing Monsters, "Loodvigg." It's not really a song, per se, but we learned how to do it anyway, and this was a good opportunity for him to try two hands.

2025-09-10 16:30:00 Bruno Mars, Count On Me

The other song last week which I forgot was Twinkle Twinkle Little Star. We went through the three songs first off, and they were all great although the second line of Happy Birthday was a little confusing, so we reworked it, and I asked him to do it again this week.

Each week it's a good idea to revisit songs from the past, but once he gets a handle on them, he doesn't need to practise them all over again... I just don't want him forgetting things we've learned in the past.

Then we added Down By The Bay, and learned about eighth notes (tee tees) and sharps (F sharp is marked as F#)

At the end of the lesson we added Bruno Mars, Count On Me - just the melody of the chorus.

September 3rd, 2025

This was Andre's first week. He found the pattern on the keyboard, and we learned the names of the notes, starting with "D" in the "doghouse."

I then wrote out three songs for him to learn: Mary Had a Little Lamb, Happy Birthday, and another which I've now forgotten! We went over them together and discussed a few outlying things, like sharps and flats, and fingering (which gets weird for Happy Birthday).

He picks things up quickly! I'm looking forward to teach Andre!
